Founded in 2026 by Kylie's Aunt Shanon
The Kylie Smith Art Foundation is a registered non-profit created in memory of Kylie Smith, a twelve-year-old artist from Tumbler Ridge, British Columbia. We aim to support the arts in BC by offering an annual student scholarship.
Our story
Kylie's life was taken in a school shooting in Tumbler Ridge, BC, Canada in 2026. She was an artist with a real talent; the kind of kid who filled sketchbooks, saw art in everything, and dreamed of going to the University of Toronto. That dream became even more solidified for her after a family trip in the summer of 2025 to the big city.
Her aunt started this foundation in the months that followed her death, because grief needed somewhere to go and because Kylie's art deserved a future. What began as one family's promise is now a registered non-profit with a volunteer board, an annual grant, and a growing circle of donors and sponsors. Thank you for your support.
Our mission
To fund and encourage young artists from northern British Columbia by awarding an annual arts grant to a graduating student from Northern BC pursuing post-secondary education or a career in the arts — and to keep Kylie's name attached to creativity, not to violence.
