HOW TO APPLY

Kylie Smith Art Foundation Annual Grant

Applications open February 1 and close March 31 each year. Here is exactly what to prepare and how to send it in.

Check that you're eligible

You must be graduating from a Northern BC school district.

Gather your documents

Proof of enrolment or a business plan, reference letters, & expression of interest

Prepare a short portfolio

Five to ten images, recordings, clips or writing samples of your work.

Submit between February 1 and March 31

Complete the form below — you'll receive a confirmation.

Watch for news in May

The recipient is notified first each May, and then announced on our webpage and socials.

Who can apply for the Kylie Smith Art Foundation grant?

  • Graduating student enrolled in a qualifying Northern BC school district with proof of enrollment

  • Entering post-secondary education or pursuing a career in the arts

  • Applying in an eligible arts discipline (see below)

  • Proof of post-secondary enrollment or an applicable business/career plan

APPLICANT AREAS OF INTEREST

What art disciplines qualifies for the grant?

Applicants must be actively engaged in studying and pursuing a post secondary

education or career in one of the following Arts categories:

Visual arts

  • Traditional Fine: Drawing, Painting, Sculpture, Printmaking

  • Digital & Media: Photography, Video/Filmography, Digital Technologies

  • Applied & Decorative: Arcitexture, Ceramics, Graphic Design, Interior Design, Fashion Design, Tattooing

Literary arts

  • Writing - Fiction

  • Writing - Non-Fiction

  • Writing - Poetry

  • Writing - Drama

Performing arts

  • Dance: Choreography, Rhythm, Movement (Cultural, Traditional, Classical, Contemporary etc)

  • Music: Instrumental, Performing, Misic Writing, Vocal Expression, Singing

  • Theatre: Drama Performing, Musical Theatre, Indigenous Story Telling, Acting

Which category are you applying under

Proof of Enrollment to one of the qualifying northern school districts:

• Official Enrollment Letter: Issued and signed by the school's main office or registrar

• Report Card or Timetable: Your most recent report card or current class schedule

• Student ID: A valid, current B.C. high school student ID card

This can be an acceptance letter, a class schedule, or a business plan if you are not attending post secondary.

These can be from teachers, school counsellor, friends, family, employers, mentors or anyone in your life who will provide reference of your passion for the Arts and support your pursuant of furthering your education or career. Please have each letter include contact information for your reference (phone number & email) and be signed at the bottom.

A formal letter of application explaining in your own words your reasons for applying for the Arts Grant, and why you think you qualify. Please also include how you plan to use the funds.

Please provide at least one digital sample of your work (piece of your writing, photograph, video of you dancing etc)
